Millie Mackintosh wears the GILES Poppy Appeal dress

GILES has created a special dress to help launch The Royal British Legion’s 2015 Poppy Appeal and new #MyPoppy social media campaign encouraging supporters to share why they wear a poppy.

Fronting the appeal is TV personality Millie Mackintosh who models the custom made black lurex wool design, which is embellished with 100 red silk poppies and took no less than 72 hours to make.

It’s a cause close to Deacon’s heart. “My Grandfather introduced me to the Poppy Appeal when I was young and I have worn my poppy every year since. He told me stories of friends he had lost from WWII and stories his father had told him from WWI,” Deacon says. “When I was asked to get involved in the #MyPoppy campaign I jumped at the chance to honour and remember the fallen and support the future of the living. I think designing the poppy dress is an interesting way of showing how the creative world can interpret the message of The Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.”

All money raised goes to providing care and support to those serving in the Armed Forces – past and present – as well as their families. This year, 350,000 Legion collectors will distribute more than 45 million emblematic poppies to the public.
