Georgian Fashion Remix show report
How does a fashion show compete with the grand surroundings of the Orangery at Kensington Palace? When it’s filled with opulent gowns from the GILES archive, of course.
Georgian Fashion Remix on Wednesday evening formed part of a year-long series of Glorious Georges events marking the 300th anniversary of Hanoverian ascension to the throne. Deacon rose to the occasion with a catwalk spectacular featuring couture pieces that not only spoke to the aristocratic aesthetic of that era but also exhibited the breadth and artistry of his work to date. Key looks drawing on the gothic and romantic tendencies of Georgian interiors and arts were paired with dramatic headpieces by Stephen Jones.
The Katie Grand-styled show was opened by Jessica Stam wearing strict monochrome corsetry, followed by a stellar line-up of models including Jacquetta Wheeler, Catherine McNeil and Ella Richards (Keith’s granddaughter) in ensembles overflowed with feathers, lace, brocades and hand-tooled leather.
Lindsey Wixson wowed in a leather and silk empire line creation and Pac Man helmet. But it was Erin O’Connor who received the biggest cheer from the A-list audience for this, her first runway appearance since becoming a mother this summer. She delighted in a regal floor length kaftan in earthy shades of gold, brown and black. Find out what happened backstage here.
