Behind the scenes of the GILES S/S 14 LFW show
Giles debuted a melancholic yet playful S/S 14 collection at London Fashion Week. Backstage at Stationers’ Hall, Georgia May Jagger, Cara Delevingne, Edie Campbell, Lily Mcmenamy, Julia Nobis and Sam Rollinson were among the models who had their nails encrusted in Swarovski crystals, hair twisted into rope plaits, eyes encased in saucer sunglasses and feet shod in Adidas trainers for the Katie Grand-styled show. Meanwhile front of house, Lily Allen, Nick Grimshaw, Gwendoline Christie and Abbey Crouch joined the front row alongside key press and buyers. Giles’s S/S 14 inspirations were revealed in waves. First a series of slip, column and t-shirt dresses were revealed, covered in Glen Luchford photos from his mid 1990s archive; the fresh faces of Kate Moss, Amber Valletta, Amanda de Cadenet and Guinevere Van Seenus clearly visible among the layers of sepia-tinted chiffon. Next, demure mini and midi dresses, frock coats, sheer blouses and skirts were showered in hot pink and lilac kisses courtesy of a gap-toothed mouth motif, realised in repeat prints and crystal appliqués. Finally, Giles’s signature statement gowns emerged shrouded in swarms of bats, which were embroidered into black silks and spread their 3D wings on top of Stephen Jones millinery. These darkly romantic evening dresses, complete with marabou feather trains and woven leather corsetry, brought the show to a dramatic close.
